Luna Park was just for fun
In childhood days now past
The welcome smile was there for all,
The memories still last
I used to go there after a swim
At the pool next door
My eyes would widen as I gazed about
And marvelled at the things I saw.
Chorus:
The dodgem cars and the ferris wheel
The Rotor and the laughing clowns
The feeling we had on the Big Dipper ride
Those loud, exciting sounds
I remember being lost in the Mirror Maze
A trip through the River Caves
To Coney Island we’d finally run
For Luna Park was just for fun
I remember the man who quietly sat
Cutting silhouettes of passers by
And the cry of the spruiker with his Cupie dolls
“Step up and have a try”
The music of the merry-go-round,
The squeals from the ghost train ride
And above these sounds the clatter of the trains
On the Harbour Bridge away up high
Chorus 2
The penny-in-the-slot and the Octopus
The Rotor and the laughing clowns
The thrill we had on the Superman ride
Those loud exciting sounds
I remember being lost in the Mirror Maze
A trip through the River Caves
To Coney Island we’d finally run
For Luna Park was just for fun
And at Coney Island we’d get tangled in rope,
Go through the barrel that rolled
We’d take a ride down the giant slide,
You never felt too old
We’d walk the boards moving back and forth,
Sit on the saucer that spun
And feeling giddy we’d leave at last
For Luna Park was just for fun.
