UPDATE OF BANJO
- Dan O'Donnell

On the Outer Barcoo where preachers are few,
there's a bigger shortage of sheilas.
There are millions of rabbits and thousands of roos,
and scores of mangy blue-heelers.
Banjo was right about churches and things
- like men of religion they're scanty -
but they are not as scarce as man's best mate:
a woman to brighten your shanty!
We blokes who patrol the dingo fence
lead a hard life on the road:
we slave away from daylight to dusk,
and at night our hormones explode.
The news just out of Canberra town
is that the Army's recruiting wimmen.
Our prospects of finding a good-looking bird
were slim but are now growin' slimmer!
It's time we began to use our brains
- after all, that's what they're for!
If the wimmen are all in the Army,
we should start our own little war!
We could start by declaring a Sovereign State
around the whole of the Outer Barcoo
and when Canberra sends in the sheilas
we could grab 'em two-by-two!
Now don't start thinkin' we're greedy
'cos till now we haven't had one
but in lean times a spare would be handy
and probably twice the fun.
