POLLY FLOOD

Polly was known 'round the district
As a fun loving friend to all
If a mother's child needed minding
She always answered the call
And many a parent remembers
How she taught their children to swim
Down in the Narran River
'though the years their memories dim.

In the old bark pub by the river
At the bottom of the hill
The girls come dressed up for dancing
And the fellows to drink their fill
In the dining room where they gather
It's here the fun all begins
As the dancers are raising the floor dust
Polly's concertina sings.

Chorus:
To the sound of her concertina
They danced the night away
By the light of the candle and slush lamp
Oh, couldn't that Polly Flood play?

She lived to be almost one hundred
'though the years were not always kind
She was thankful for those happy memories
Thoughts of Angledool brought to mind
As she shuffled the old streets of Walgett
She remembered that dusty old pub
And the dances she played for 'til morning
Out there on the mulga scrub.
