LENNOX BRIDGE

Built in 1833
The oldest bridge in our country
Crossing a gully deep and wide
A safer path to the other side

Built by a Scotsman, Lennox his name
Sub-Inspector of Roads he became
On orders from Mitchell his work began
To build a bridge from just a plan

With unskilled labour he achieved his task
Constructing a bridge on Mitchell's Pass
Given little naterial, problems overcome
And little reward for a job well done.

The bridge was used for many years
A monument to our pioneers
It showed the way where others might follow
Spanning the past into tomorrow

A fitting reminder of days gone by
And what is possible when we try
But like most things memories pass away
And soon the bridge was in decay

Half its former self, its lifeblood gone
A place where rubbish might fall upon
But now it's restored to its former glory
An important part of our Blue Mountains story
